I know this is the About page but this isn’t about me.

It’s about you.

So let’s talk about the kind of data engineer you might be right now.

The Data Firefighter

You’re tired and feel burnt out.

You’re fixing broken pipelines at 2AM.

You’re only visible to the stakeholders when something breaks.

You clean up other people’s messes, like broken contracts or poor data collection, or deliver data where you know it won’t matter.

You get tickets assigned instead of strategic questions asked.

And deep down, you wonder if this is really the career you signed up for.

The Modern Data Engineer

You build systems that are easily maintainable, robust, and ensure you can focus on adding value, not just fixing bugs.

You spot issues before others do, because you’ve set up mechanisms that will alert you when something is about to happen.

You help teams ship smarter and faster. But you’re also a respected teammate who lets the whole team shine.

You guide data decisions, not just implement them. The stakeholders trust your opinion and ask for your input.

Maybe you’re even the driver of initiatives that will transform (parts of) the business.

You’re the engine of the team, the department, and sometimes even the company.

Where you are right now?

You’ll probably see a bit of both in yourself and that’s good.

Modern Data Engineering is for those who are eager enough to become the expert builder, the data innovator, or the force multiplier and don’t settle to be data firefighters or plumbers.

This publication is for data engineers who want more. More impact. More clarity. More respect. More fun.

One post at a time, we’ll get closer to becoming outstanding data engineers.
